After Layoffs at 1047 Games, Splitgate 2 Is Going Back To the Beta Phase

1047 Games, the developers of Splitgate 2, have once again been hit by layoffs. This time, the layoffs are important since they are having a major impact on the studio’s capabilities and performance. Splitgate 2 has been pushed back into the Beta phase. There are multiple planned updates for the game. In a sense, the free-to-play and portal-based game is taking a U-turn.

The announcement regarding the game states, “That means reworking progression from the ground up, adding more portals to our maps, simplifying monetization, refocusing on classic game modes you’ve been asking for, and more, which we’ll share soon.” The game will still be in a playable shape, and the planned Chapter 3 for the game will release as planned. It is highly likely that there will be multiple playtests and major changes will take place during this revamp period.

It will also have an impact on the original Splitgate; its servers will shut down starting next month. The decision is being taken to reduce the cost of operation. While talking to Polygon, 1047 Games CEO Ian Proulx stated that 95% of its development force is being assigned to the relaunch of the game. The studio is planning on releasing the game in early 2026.

This comes amid the success of Stop Killing Games. The developers also stated they will be implementing peer-to-peer matches after the end of Splitgate’s life.
