Xbox is heading into making an Xbox handheld device with its new console, which is in the development phase. The CEO of Xbox Phil Spencer said that the release of the handheld console will take a few years to get released. In the meantime, they want to focus on the Xbox app on devices that are already on the market.
During an interview with Bloomberg, Xbox confirmed the rumors that a handheld device is still underway. However, he emphasized Xbox’s entry into the handheld console with a “full-fledged vision” of the device.
Phil Spencer also stated that his team is actively analyzing the market to bring a better portable experience to the already existing hardware. Phil Spencer stated “Longer term, I love us building devices,” he further continued “Longer term, I love us building devices,” Spencer said, “but we want to be informed by learning and what’s happening now.”
The company’s present goal is to make the Xbox app better on present devices which is described by Phil Spencer as “good rather than great.”. He also put emphasis on the price of the console being an important factor for the Xbox’s future.
There is no specific timeline for the console yet. It should align with the release of the next-generation Xbox console which is supposed to be released in 2028. It can be assured that Xbox’s handheld will be released during that time. Microsoft is focused on exploring new stuff in gaming hardware. It all boils down to one thing, Xbox Handheld is not off the table.
