Another Game Was Axed By Microsoft (Contraband)

Microsoft is on a canceling spree, and this time, it is a game from the developers of Just Cause, Avalanche, called Contraband. The news was confirmed by Jason Schreier, who seems to get things right nearly all the time. It was supposed to be released for Xbox Series X/S and PC.

The project was in work for five years, and reports suggest that the game is on hold and refrained from using the word cancel.

Contraband was announced in 2021, and it is described as a “co-op smuggler’s paradise” that takes place in a fictional version of the 1970s.

The official pages for the game are still live on both Xbox and Avalanche. This report comes amid the report of 9000 layoffs at Microsoft. The layoff also had an impact on Xbos, which led to the cancellation of their multiple games.

Recently, another Xbox game, Perfect Dark reboot, was canceled, and its developer was shut down. ZeniMax Online Studios was developing an MMO that was also canceled.

The CEO of Microsoft, Satya Nadella, acknowledged  it and called it “enigma of success.” These cuts are happening at a time when Microsoft is heavily investing in AI.
