Concord is Going Offline 2 Weeks After its Launch

Concord, PlayStation’s latest first-person hero shooter will go offline on the September 6th due to the game’s poor sales. The Hero Shooter launched on the PS5 and PC on August 23rd. According to estimates Concord only sold 25000 copies.

Its all-time high peak capped at 697 players on Steam, which is even lower than The Lord of the Rings: Gollum, which was the worst game of the year. It seems we have a worse game for 2024. It means that the game will go offline after 2 weeks of its release. Damn, that’s low.

Ryan Ellis the game director of Concord has this to say about the game on PlayStation Blog “We have decided to take the game offline beginning September 6, 2024, and explore options, including those that will better reach our players,” Ellis further continues “While we determine the best path ahead, Concord sales will cease immediately and we will begin to offer a full refund for all gamers who have purchased the game for PS5 or PC.”

Players who have purchased the game from the PlayStation store will be issued a refund with the methods that were used for purchase. In case, you have purchased it from Steam or Epic Games Store, you will get the refund for the game soon after.

Free-to-Play VS Pay-to-Play

It took 8 years for the Firewalk Studios to develop the game and it cost $40. The game was competing against other free-to-play hero shooters like Valorant and Overwatch. As a pay-to-play game it went up against free-to-play games which resulted in its failure since the game has no unique selling point.

Based on what we know, it seems like the hero shooter will return as a free-to-play game if it ever wants to return. The blog post ends with “We’ll keep you updated and thank you again to all the Freegunners who have joined us in the Concord galaxy,”
