Elden Ring is only going to get one DLC “Shadow of the Erdtree” so players should stop hoping to get more than one expansion. However, Hidetaka Miyazaki the head of From Software, said that they are open to making a sequel for Elden Ring.
Elden Ring is a role-playing game developed by From Software. From Software is known for its soul-like games. In fact, they are the creators of the first souls-like game. Elden Ring is a souls-like roleplaying open-world game that takes players on a wild journey across the magical land of Lands Between. Shadow of the Erdtree will be its first DLC and it will release on 12 June 2024. Developers have now confirmed that it will be the game’s first and last expansion.
While speaking with the Chinese outlet Campfire Camp, the software head and director of Elden Ring Hidetaka Miyazaki said that Elden Ring focuses on exploration and adventure in a big open world. To keep the experience streamlined, big and huge scenes will be needed. That is what Shadow of the Erdtree will provide.
According to Miyazaki, Instead of splitting it into multiple parts, it is better to make a single grand one. If we sell the experience separately, it will lose the freedom of exploration and sense of adventure. Miyazaki also mentioned that the idea of the DLC occurred during the planning stage and was inspired by George R.R. Martin’s work.
All is Well
A lot of players are waiting for the DLC to drop. I for once don’t know if it is a shame or a blessing. Not getting more of the game is a bummer but at the same time, a single good DLC can be a blessing. Getting one good DLC that continues the grand ideas that the game presented feels enticing. Gieven the track record of From Software, everything will be fine.
