The developer of Lone Sails and Changing Tides, Okomotive has announced a new game at Gamescom called the Herdling. As the name suggests, it lets you be herder to cute-looking animals as you go on alpine expeditions.
Herdling is a single-player game that as the game explains “guides, protect, and fall in love with a motley herd of Calicorns” Calicorns are large animals that look like bison. Players will journey across the plains while steering the Calicorns through mountains and plains explained as “fog-wreathed forests”, there are valleys and snowy plateaus to go through while also sharpening your herding ability.
It is not clear what challenges players will face while herding. The game does mention “threats” and “light environmental puzzles” as obstacles. We don’t know what obstacles and environmental puzzles mean. Environmental hazards could be a thing that players would need to save their animals from.
It can go into The Last Guardian route. As players progress, they will develop an affinity for the family Calicorns that you are herding which will result in some emotional sequences.
The game is set to release sometime in 2025 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
