As per SEScoops, Sony is aiming to buy the streaming and gaming element of Warner Bros. The reports state that the assets will include different IPs, gaming assets, and the HBO MAX streaming service.
The exact statement of the report reads, “Sources said Sony was only interested in acquiring WBD’s streaming, studio, and gaming assets if they were separated from its cable networks, which have lost millions of homes as viewers abandon traditional cable packages.”
On June 9, Warner Bros. Discovery announced that they are splitting the company into two different parts, Warner Bros. Discovery Streaming & Studios and WBD Global Networks. This split will be completed by mid-2026. The move will push Discovery, TNT Sports, and CNN under the Global Networking part of the company. Assets of the company, like production houses, gaming division, HBO Max, and more, will be put under the Streaming & Studios wing.
On June 17, it was reported that Warner Bros. Games is seeing major alterations, which will result in the creation of a new division for their major video game franchises. This new division will focus on franchises like Game of Thrones, DC Universe, Mortal Kombat, and Harry Potter.
If this buyout of Sony Warner Bros is true, this could put the ball in Sony’s court.
