Techland, the Polish developer, reported the loss of 130 million Polish Zloty, which is equal to $37.3 million, as reported by the Puls Biznesu, a Polish business outlet. The losses have resulted in the developer’s decision to cancel two different projects in the works. There are no details on the projects that were cancelled.
Tachland announced in 2022 that they are working on a fantasy open-world RPG, but no details were given regarding it. The developer announced that they have created a new team to work on the project. Multiple former CD Projekt Red developers were employed to work on the project. The team also included major names that worked on Cyberpunk 2077 and The Witcher 3: The Wild Hunt.
Back in 2023, The CEO of Techland, Paweł Marchewka had this to say about the game “Our open world action-RPG in a fantasy setting is already shaping up to become something truly special, and the goal here is to make sure it will live up to the expectations for our first new IP in almost a decade”
In 2025, the studio stated that they have plans to work on multiple projects in the Dying Light franchise, but this new cancellation makes the fate of these projects uncertain. The developer’s last game, Dying Light 2: Stay Human, was a success.
Dying Light: The Beast is their upcoming game, slated to release this summer, which was announced back in August 2024. It was originally planned as a DLC, but now it will be released as a standalone game. The developer stated, “But after two years of work, its size and scope have changed so much that it evolved into a standalone, self-contained experience.”
The details about the two canceled projects remain unclear.
