Xbox has announced the new Gears of War game and it is known as Gears of War: E-Day. The game was announced during the Xbox Games Showcase and is the latest entry into the Gears of War series. Gears of War: E-Day is being developed by The Coalition which is Xbox’s first-party studio. The studio has been developing Gears games since the beginning. There is no official release date or release window. It is being built upon Unreal Engine 5.
The announcement trailer for Gears of War: E-Day pays homage to the Mad World commercial that was made for the original game. The game takes place 14 years before the events of the first game. It takes place during the first emergence of Locusts on the planet of Sera.
Players will take control of Marcus Fenix once again. Gears of War E-Day will be an origin story that serves as a backdrop to the other Gears games.
In the trailer, we see Marcus Fenix struggling to fight a Locust as he fights for survival and tries to get his hands on the weapon. When he goes outside, the camera pans around the city and we see a city is being ravaged and in ruins.
A New Gears of War
The game will be the first mainline game in the series since the 2019 Gears 5. Microsoft had plans of extending Gears of War beyond the game into other realms of media similar to what they did with Halo. Things haven’t worked out for that strategy that well just yet but there was a spinoff for the game known as Gears Tactics in 2020. Netflix also announced their plans to make a live-action series and animated series that would take place in the Gears universe.
It will be interesting to see how the developers come up with an origin story.
