Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree Sold More Than 5 Million Copies In the First 3 Days

Usually, DLC sales don’t come close to the sales of the base game and are often treated as an afterthought but there are expectations, and Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree is part of that exception. Most players don’t buy DLC since many players don’t want to replay the game or go back to a game that they have played multiple times. Elden Ring is one of these games that broke the trend because it is seeing a massive spike in sales.

As per the announcement from Bandai Namco, Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree has sold more than five million copies in just three days after its release. Such huge sales enable it to outpace even a lot of full prince games in the same time frame.

The revelation comes after Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree DLC received universal acclaim from the press with a few exceptions. Shadow of the Erdtree is difficult so some players are frustrated by its difficulty while others are taking it as a challenge and welcoming it with open arms.

If you are not doing well with the DLC, then don’t feel bad. You are not alone because a lot of players are in the same boat. Even the director of Elden Ring, Hidetaka Miyazaki said that he is not good at the game. He has the inside knowledge which shows how difficult the game is.

A patch for the DLC was launched that made the game easier for the new player. The earlier Scadutree Blessings were made more powerful which made transition to the DLC easier.

Can’t Come Close to Base Elden Ring

There is still a lot of distance that Shadow of the Erdtree needs to travel before reaching the number of the base game. The base Elden Ring has more than 25 million copies sold till June 2024. In the first month, the base game sold more than 13.4 million copies. These number means that it will be impossible for DLC to reach those numbers.
