Black Myth: Wukong turned out to be one of the most popular games in 2024 and won multiple awards in different categories but despite its fame, the game is still not available on Xbox. A new statement from the developer of the game gives us more information regarding its availability on Xbox.
On the Chinese social network Weibo, the game’s director, Feng Ji, stated that the Xbox Series S is holding back the game’s release on the Xbox platform. The comment also states that its 10GB RAM is a major factor holding it back.
The new information contradicts the speculation that Black Myth: Wukong is not being released on Xbox due to Game Science’s deal with the PlayStation. It also explains that Black Myth was never marketed as a PlayStation exclusive.
This is not the first time that developers have encountered problems due to Xbox Series S which has resulted in the delay to the platform. Baldur’s Gate 3 is one such notable example. Baldur’s Gate 3 was originally released in August 2023 and got ported to PlayStation 5 in September but it was released on Xbox in December. As per the developer’s comments regarding the delay, the game had a split screen which made it too intense for Xbox Series S to handle.
The release of Baldur’s Gate 3 on Xbox came with the removal of Splitscreen for Xbox Series S but it is available on Xbox Series X. There is no such feature in Black Myth: Wukong that could hinder its performance on the Xbox Series S. The game has performance issues even on high-end PCs and PS5 so internal optimization might be an issue.
