Remedy is Partnering with Annapurna who will now fund 50% of the development for Control 2. Along with working on the game, they will also get licensing rights to television and films for Alan Wake and Control.
Annapurna now has the choice to create series and movies based on the world of Control and Alan Wake which got a new game in 2023. There has been no specific project announced yet. Remedy and Annapurna have this to say about the topic. “Annapurna will take the lead in expanding Control and Alan Wake into new entertainment mediums, enabling Remedy to focus on the development of Control 2 and other upcoming games.”
Annapurna has the opportunity to make films based on Control and Alan Wake but no project has yet been announced. The deal also states that “Remedy will retain the full IP rights for Control and Alan Wake.” Remedy bought the rights of Control this year from the publisher 505 Games.
Remady has been putting live-action elements in their video games with Quantum Break being the main example. Quantum Break was an attempt to merge live-action and video games. Control and Alan Wake have been heavily influenced by film and TV. Remedy’s expansion into these mediums makes sense, in an era where we are seeing a lot of cross-overs and live-action adaptations.
The CEO of Annapurna Megan Ellison stated “The future of storytelling requires seamlessly integrating gaming, film, and television, and this partnership will allow us to explore new ways of bringing these narratives to life.” That’s all we have for now, stay tuned for more.
