Rumored Destiny Mobile Game is Reportedly Still in Development

There have been rumors about the Destiny mobile game which is still under work and is known as Destiny Rising. Before that, There were also rumors that the Destiny mobile game may have been canceled.

Destiny is one of the most popular looter shooters that is enjoyed by fans around the world. The last expansion of the game was Final Shape which was released on June 4, 2024.

The rumor of the Destiny mobile game first surfaced in 2022 with different job listings that were hinting towards this possibility. In the year 2024, when Bungie laid off so many employees, fans were worried that the game might be canceled. These latest rumors have now squashed the doubts.

As per the Insider Kurakasis, Bungie has not canceled their plans of bringing Destiny 2 to mobile phones. In one of the tweets, they said that the mobile version that was rumored to be in development was not canceled. It was also revealed that the game is being developed by Bungie and Chinese studio NetEase will be called Destiny 2 Rising.

Mobile Game Still Going Strong

The leak shows us that despite recent layoffs, Bungie still has ambitions for its mobile gaming. In July, Bungie did a massive layoff which was their second layoff this year. The layoff also resulted in the departure of senior Bungie executives who had been with the developers since Halo: Reach and beyond.

The interesting thing is that Bungie later reported to be hiring for some roles despite layoffs. It hints that they might still be progressing towards the next phase. It certainly leaves an impression that the rumored Destiny mobile is still a possibility.

Over the years, different franchises such as Fortnite, Call of Duty, Apex Legends, and more have released games on mobile phones. Some saw major success while others, not so much. This change in trend makes the most out of mobile gaming which is quite lucrative. It stands to reason that IPs like Destiny will eventually come to mobile phones.
