During the Xbox Developers Direct Livestream event, Compulsion Games upcoming gothic dark fantasy game South of Midnight got a release date. The game is set to release on April 8, 2025, and will be available on PC and Xbox Series X/S. During the event, new gameplay footage and information were also presented. Per usual, the game will be available on Xbox Game Pass Ultimate on day one.
We got more details regarding the world, combat, and story of the game. The new footage shows us a hurricane destroying a section of the Deep South, the place where Hazel (the main character) and her mother live. The two get into an argument but then the disaster occurs and their home is swept away while her mother is still trapped inside.
Hazel then sets on the course to find her mom and finds out about the hurricane that has unleashed some fantasy creatures. Some of these creatures are friendly while others are hostile. It is revealed that Hazel is a weaver, a being having magical powers. These abilities can be used in both transversal and combat. Timing will be an important part of the combat so knowing when to attack and when to defend will be important.
The Compulsion Games has stated that it will take the players 10 and 12 hours to complete South of Midnight.
