The developer of the Crysis series, Crytek has paused the development of Crysis 4 which has been in development for a while. The decision to halt the development comes with the company’s decision to lay off 15% of its workforce due to financial challenges. This layoff will impact 60 employees of the company from different teams.
Crytek was founded by the Yerli brothers and the studio is known for the Crysis series with the first game released in 2007. The story follows a group of soldiers with nanosuites who are fighting against aliens and mercenaries. Crysis 4 takes place directly after Crysis 3 and it is supposed to push gaming hardware to the limit resulting in the revival of a meme Can it run Crysis?
Crytek explains that this decision comes in an effort to ensure long-term sustainability for the developer. Even though Hunt: Showdown is continuously growing, the studio has to cut costs to keep the operations going. The studio pledges to commit to the future of ‘Hunt: Showdown, especially after the game’s recent update. Aside from Crysis, Crytek has also worked on games such as Far Cry and Ryse: Son of Rome among others. Kingdom Come: Deliverance was developed by Warhorse Studios through the Crytek’s CryEngine.
Crytek is also the largest game developer in Germany with over 400 employees as of 2024. Even though Crysis 4 is on hold, the studio is actively working on other projects so you can play their other games in the meantime.
