The Long Dark Is Getting A Sequel Called Blackfrost: The Long Dark 2

The Long Dark 2 has officially been unveiled as a sequel to the survivor horror known as Blackfrost: The Long Dark 2. It will be coming to Steam in early access in 2026. There is a long wait ahead before we can finally get our hands on the game. The first trailer in the game did not show much but this new trailer at The Game Awards shows much more. We see towns and cities engulfed in the frozen apocalypse.

The Steam page of the game states,  “A year after the Aurora’s appearance & the world went dark, the people of Harmont & its vast wild environs struggle to survive the Quiet Apocalypse. Survive alone or with others against a host of new hazards & a fresh new survival sandbox from a pioneer of the genre. Live together. Die alone.”

Blackfrost: The Long Dark 2 can be played in both solo and Co-Op. As a player, you have to rely on NPCs as you explore more of what the world has to offer. In co-op, you can also play with other players and combine your skills to stay alive in the face of danger. Aurora storms and harsh weather are not your only problem because you also have to worry about radioactive Blackfrost and dangerous wildlife.

The game will be entering early access in 2026 on Steam. It will be released without a complete plan and will be built over time. As per Hinterland, doing so would enable them to create a community-oriented experience. However, fans are skeptical since the last episode has yet to be delivered. Fans are not going to like the same treatment once more.
