The developer of the famous martial arts game Sifu, Sloclap has revealed their next big experience called Rematch. It will be an arcade-style soccer game that is set to release summer of 2025. It is a different kind of game for the developer. The developers stated “We felt it was time for a new perspective on this beautiful game: closer to the pitch, closer to the players,”
The game will take place in a stadium that will dynamically change. It will have 5v5 matchups with no concept of offside and fouls. There are no out-of-bounds, so the ball will come back right in. The developer has also said that skill will be a key factor in doing shots, volley, passes, and more.
Rematch was developed considering online play and how players control the pitch. Unlike traditional soccer games, the camera is third-person and follows one player rather than the entire team. The game features quick text and voice chat options for proper communication.
Players will be able to play as strikers, goalkeepers, and defenders. The game has 5v5 mode along with private matches and quick play modes. It will also have post-launch content which will add cosmetic items and new modes. Sloclap described the game as “Fundamentally, Rematch is about the joy of playing football with friends, of being together in a team,” and further continues “It’s about putting your team first, and how it can be more satisfying to serve the perfect assist than to actually score oneself.”
There is no release date or release window for the game just yet. The game will be available for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
