A leaked ad revealed the release window of Mafia: The Old Country and at The Game Awards 2024 we got a full trailer that shows us more of what the game has to offer. The most important bit of information is that, unlike previous Mafia games, Mafia: The Old Country will not be an open-world game. The developer Hangar 13 describes the game as a linear narrative-driven experience.
The president of Hanger 13 describes the game as “Mafia: The Old Country is a love letter to old-style, gritty Mafia stories where players can uncover the origins of organized crime,” and further continues “Everyone at Hangar 13 is committed to creating the most authentic and intense story of the franchise, and we can’t wait for players to experience the journey with Enzo.”
As per the press release of 2K, it is a “focused package” that will have a “graphically stunning cinematic experience”. The story is set in a fictional Sicilian town known as San Celeste. The city has deep-rooted relations with organized crime that will entice players into dangerous combat and high-stakes scenarios. Stealth and gunplay mechanics play an important role in the game.
The main character of the game is known as Enzo. He has seen the brutality of the land firsthand and wants to make his life better whatever it takes. So it can be a treat to fans of narrative-driven games.
Mafia: The Old Country is being made using Unreal Engine 5 and it is set to release in Summer 2025 for PC, Xbox Series X/S, and PlayStation 5.
