Resident Evil Requiem or Resident Evil 9 is the 9th mainline game in the series, with a focus on providing a haunting experience, which was revealed during Summer Game Fest 2025. More details about the game were provided in Capcom Spotlight.
The game is set to release on February 27, 2026. The game will be released on PC, Xbox Series X/S, and PlayStation 5. I hope we get to see it released on Switch 2 as well because we have seen other RE games on Nintendo.
Resident Evil Requiem is going to take players to the place where it all began, Raccoon City. Players will take control of Grace Ashcroft, who is a new character in the series. She is an FBI analyst and the daughter of Alyssa Ashcroft, a character in Resident Evil Outbreak. Just don’t expect a hardcore character because she is new to all this, and her reaction to zombies and all the bio-organic is quite jumpy.
The director of the game, Koshi Nakanishi, stated, “We wanted a character who feels the horror just like you do,” and further clarified, “She grows braver as the story unfolds, but she’s also got FBI training—sharp with a gun and cool-headed when it counts.”
In the gameplay trailer, we see Grace going through shadowy hallways. She uses her lighter to light up the dark, which adds more to the dread.
In Line With The Series
The thing that makes Resident Evil Requiem different is the ability to switch between first-person and third-person perspectives. You can choose to use whichever one of the perspectives you see fit. According to producer Masachika Kawata on PlayStation’s Blog post, players were split between first-person and third-person, so we are giving them the choice to use both.
As mentioned earlier, the game takes place in the ruins of Raccoon City, and it even feels like a tribute to the origin of the series. At one point, the developer even thought of an online game and an open-world game, but scrapped these ideas. It’s good that developers are going with a proven idea rather than experimentation.
