Saga has finally announced the new chapter in Virtua Fighter with Virtua Fighter 6 which is currently in development.
Virtua Fighter 6 will be the first mainline entry into the franchise after nearly two decades. However, presently Saga is calling it the “New Virtua Fighter Project”. Virtua Fighter 5 was released in 2006. Virtua Fighter 5 has seen multiple re-releases and revisions since its launch. The first game in the series was launched in 1993 with the arcade Virtua Fighter.
The game is being developed by Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio of Saga. This new Virtua Fighter will bring back famous characters such as Sarah Bryant and Akira Yuki. In the trailer, we can see that Akira Yuki is now older, and a woman who looks like Sarah Bryant is called Stella. Developers are saying that Stella will act as a bridge between the old Virtua Fighter games and the new ones.
The producer of the new Virtua Fighter is stating that the game will have innovation and will be based on reality, the two of which are a key part of the franchise. Riichiro Yamada stated, “Our goal is for everyone to recognize that game as Virtua Fighter,”. There is no released date for the game just yet. It is part of Saga’s push to revive old franchises. Games like Jet Set Radio, Street of Rage, Golden Axe, and Crazy Taxi are also part of this push.
