Id Software revealed the next Doom game last summer which is named Doom: The Dark Ages, it now has a release date. The game is set to release on May 15th, 2025. The news comes along with the latest Developer Direct livestream which has given us a detailed look at the game.
It is more of a Medieval fantasy rather than a sci-fi fantasy and takes place before the events of Doom 2016 and Doom Eternal. The developers have stated that the world of the game is bigger and there is more focus on the story. There are more cut scenes and the gameplay will have major changes which is evident from the trailer.
There is more focus on melee attacks which is a new take on the game’s combat. Since the game takes place in medieval times, players will have access to new melee weapons such as spiked mace, iron flail, and of course the chain saw shield. Battles will be more grand and robust enabling players to fight in new ways. Players can mount a cybernetic dragon and even pilot a big mech suite to fight against kaiju-scale enemies.
Difficulty Tweaking
One of the major changes is the accessibility. The game allows players to tweak different gameplay sliders. These sliders will enable you to change different aspects of the combat such as parry time, speed of the game, and so on. You can either increase them or decrease them. These options will enable players to customize the gameplay experience to their liking. There are also generic difficulty options so you can use them if you don’t want to use manual tweaking.
Doom: The Dark Ages will be available on Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, and PC. Yes, you heard that right, it is coming to PlayStation despite being a first-party Xbox game.
