UBI Soft Cancelled Tom Clancy’s The Division Heartland

Tom Clancy’s The Division Heartland which was a free-to-play shooter has been canceled. Ubisoft is aiming at larger plans to focus its resources on grander opportunities.

The news broke out with Ubisoft’s earnings report. The company has stated that they are assigning the resources to other live service games such as XDefiant and Rainbow Six.  It is part of a major restructuring that UBI Soft has been going through for the past couple of months. The Publisher is looking at cost cuts to diversify its resources into few but better and larger games.

A statement has been given by UBI Soft regarding the state of affairs.

According to UBI Soft, after careful analysis, they have decided to stop development on The Division Heartland. The priority has now been shifted to newer games such as XDefiant and Rainbow Six. Keep in mind that it is not a word-to-word quote but rather a summary of what was stated.

The Division Heartland was announced in 2021 and was being developed by Red Storm Entertainment. It got delayed as soon as it was announced. The game was supposed to be released last year but was canceled. There was even talk about its potential release since it got ratings in Taiwan.

UBI Soft has been cancelling multiple games such as Immortal Fenix Rising 2 to name a few. The company explained that they were working on too many games at the same time. Like many other companies in the industry, UBI Soft has been engaging in cost-cutting measures. Doing so has resulted in studio closures, game cancellations, and multiple rounds of layoffs. As per the report, they have reduced employees by 1700 in the last 18 months.

Sadly, The Division Heartland cancellation was part of these cost-cutting measures.

Hope for The Best

If you were The Division fan then this would be really bad news for you. I myself am a huge fan of The Division franchise and hearing this kind of news does not sound good. Let’s just hope that we get a good Division game when UBI Soft makes it. The Division Heartland won’t be the Last Division game that the UBI Soft is going to make.
