The Resident Evil Requiem/RE9 Will Be A Major Graphical Evolution

Resident Evil 9 was announced during Summer Game Fest and is known as Resident Evil Requiem. It will be the next mainline RE game after Resident Evil Village, which was released in 2021. The game will bring the series back to Raccoon City. Grace Ashcroft is the new protagonist introduced to the game, the daughter of Alyssa Ashcroft from Resident Evil: Outbreak.

The Developer, Capcom has iterated that the Resident Evil Requiem will be a “significant evolution” that will have stunning graphics that will deliver “visuals with cinematic realism that vividly convey characters’ emotions and offer an unprecedented level of immersion.” Different graphical features like “lifelike facial expressions”, ” high-fidelity sweat droplets”, and “realistic skin textures” will be part of the graphical overhaul.

Since Resident Evil 7: Biohazard, Capcom has been using RE Engine for every Resident Evil game it has developed. The developers have spent time upgrading their engine with the newest version known as RE next. Resident Evil Requiem will take advantage of these upgrades.

It will be the first pure next-gen game since all the previous games were available on the last-gen console. Capcom doesn’t need to hold back just so they can run the game on the older hardware. If you are on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, it’s time for an upgrade if you want to play Requiem. The minimum spec for PC is also going to see a major leap. It’s most likely that the game will have some major optimization for PS5 Pro.

All these upgrades also mean that the playable areas will be bigger, there will be better AI and load times will be faster.

Resident Evil Requiem is set to release on February, 27th, 2026 for Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, and PC.
