The top 10 battle royale games list contains games with a large number of active players. Since the release of PUBG and Fortnite, the success of battle royale games has exploded. There are so many of these last-man-standing games. Each of them has a separate identity but some of their ideas can overlap. Some battle royales are really good while others are not that good if not entirely bad.
Top Battle Royale Games
With so many battle royale games it’s hard to know which one you should play and which one is not worth your time. At the end of the day, a live service game is as good as the number of players playing it. Battle royale games are live service games too and need a large number of players for survival due to their massive nature. Below is the list of the top 10 battle royale games with a large active player base.
Fortnite
Fortnite is one of the most famous battle royale games. It is the game that took the concept of live service games to the next level. Building mechanics of Fortnite act as its signature aspect. Players can break everything around them and use it as a resource for building. Fortnite gets more updates than any other game to keep it fresh for everyone. Constant updates are one of the main reasons for its fame. These updates influence every aspect of the game. It adds new content, weapons, mechanics, and other stuff.
The game offers more cosmetics with each update than what other games offer each season. Its collaboration with other franchises also plays a huge role. Many Franchises have been part of its updates. Fortnite is the only game that includes characters from PlayStation exclusive games and Xbox games. Due to its fame, Fortnite is part of the top 10 battle royale games. Fortnite is the only major BR game that supports cross-play between mobile devices, consoles, and PCs. All other games only support crossplay between PC and consoles.
Call of Duty Warzone
Warzone is the first Call of Duty game and it is also one of the most famous battle royale games with a large amount of player base. The only other such game that can come close to the player base of Warzone is Fortnite. Call of Duty Warzone not only has a massive community but also has some of the best FPS combat. The chaotic nature of COD games that we all love is as prevalent in Warzone as any other Call of Duty game.
The thing that makes it different than other games on this list is its direct relation with yearly Call of Duty games. Since the release of the game, events of other Call of Duty games directly influence its updates starting with Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2019. Every year we see a new Call of Duty game and each one of these games will have an influence on Warzone. In the year 2020, Call of Duty Cold War overhauled it. The contestant updates through yearly Call of Duty games and a large player base makes it one of the top 10 battle royale games.
Apex Legends
Apex Legends is a hero shooter and it was the first battle royale with the concept of hero shooter. Its hero shooter nature makes it different from the other top 10 battle royale games on this list. Apex Legends has fast-paced combat in which a split-second decision can make a difference between life and death. Each Legend has a specific set of abilities and these abilities are unique to that legends. Abilities are both passive and active meaning some will directly impact gameplay while others will indirectly impact the gameplay. The abilities of a character can make it better or worse than others. Characters with smaller hitboxes tend to take more damage than the ones with larger hitboxes.
Apex Legends relies heavily on Legends to support the gameplay and make it fun. The total number of players in each match is 60 and the squad is either made of duo or trio. If you like hero shooters, then Apex Legends could be the game for you.
PUBG
Players Unknown Battle Ground (PUBG) is the most famous battle royale game on mobile devices. However, we are discussing PC and console battle royales and PUBG is available on both of these as well. At its peak, PUBG was the famous PC game of its time. It has sold more than 70 million copies on consoles and PC, making it one of the top 5 best-selling games of all time. PUBG is also credited for the success of battle royale games and it is considered to be the game that introduced the concept of the last man standing. The term battle royale was invented by the creator of PUBG and it is based on the famous Japanese movie Battle Royale. In a sense, it is the first battle royale game (if you don’t consider game modes)
PUBG is a generic battle royale game with last-man-standing mechanics. 100 Players are dropped in a map and the last player or team standing gets to be the winner. There are options of solo, duo, and quad modes. It is one of the few battle royale games that have multiple maps. PUBG is not a free-to-play battle royale game and it doesn’t have as many players and updates as some of the other games on the top 10 battle royale games list. It also acts as a direct competitor to the Warzone.
Hyperscape
After making multiple online games, UBI soft entered the realm of battle royale games with Hyperscape. The thing that makes it different is the setting and its simulative nature. Hyperscape takes place in a simulative setting where players can have unrealistic power. The game is a superpower version of battle royale that feels both exciting and fast at the same time. Picking a character does not give you an advantage over opponents, unlike Apex Legends which is also part of the top 10 battle royale games list. However, you still get abilities similar to superpowers by finding them as part of the loot. Jump high in the air and slam on the ground to damage multiple enemies, become invisible, teleport, throw mines, teleport mines, creates walls, and so on. Abilities make the combat fun and chaotic.
Ring of Elysium
Ring of Elysium is a free-to-play game that is somewhat similar to PUBG. The thing that makes it different from the top 10 battle royale games on this list is its heavy reliance on lore. Each seasonal map is updated based on the lore. Season not only introduces new seasonal content but also shines more light on the lore. Each season also introduces three new characters in the story to explore the lore. These characters are not tied to the gameplay but rather helps in extending the lore. Ring of Elysium offers a good gameplay experience but the number of players in the game is not that high. It is only available on PC so it’s not a choice for console players.

Cooldown time, damage type, and damage makes up the basic combat of the game. Additionally there six elemental classes which include fire, ice, wind, lighting, stone, and toxic. Equipping gauntlets similar to the elemental class will give players an advantage in that element. There are also runes that give players abilities to fly, teleport, or become invisible.

CRSED: F.O.A.D.
CRSED: F.O.A.D. is a game that functions similarly to any other battle royale game. The thing that makes it different is its spawning mechanics. In CRSED: F.O.A.D. players randomly drop on the map and there is no parachuting or gliding what’s so ever. You can play it both first-person and third-person perspective but in the third person, you are accompanied by a drone for greater visibility. Supernatural items are available for use along with abilities, some of the abilities are unique to characters. CRSED: F.O.A.D also features multiple maps. Just like other BR players land on a map and then start searching for items to defend themselves. These items include guns, medkits, and other supplies. The game can be played in solo mode or a group of up to four players. The last team or player standing gets to be the winner.
Darwin Project
Darwin Project is a battle royale on a small scale and it only includes 10 players with 11th acting as the show director. While 10 players compete to be the last one standing the 11th player has to make the game more interesting. Think of it as Resident Evil Resistance mode but on a grand level. Each player has the ability to play as either male or female prisoner. Players are prisoners that are fighting for their lives on the island. Players spawn with an ax, a bow, and an arrow. Along with that they also have the choice of using the equipment. Players also have the choice to play using a build that they have already made. If you are more into survival games then Darwin Project might be a good option.
Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout
Fall Guys is a battle royale game where you play as a jelly-bean-like figure to survive. The game is also based on the last man standing idea. The winner in Fall Guys is not determined through combat but rather sheer survival. Players will take part in the competition that includes different obstacles. Any player that drops from the track is knocked out. There are multiple rounds and in each round the number of players that survive reduces. In the final round, the last person left standing gets to be the winner. Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout is a light-hearted experience unlike other BR games on the top 10 battle royale games list.
Conclusion
The top 10 battle royale games include the most popular battle royale games with a large player base. Some games on this list will have a higher player base compared to others. In the end, it depends on players and what type of battle royale they want to play.
